Lang Son province: Tourism awakens to welcome the sunrise

From July 1, 2025, the conclusion of district-level administrations has produced wide-reaching impacts across all sectors, including tourism management. In this new context, Lang Son’s tourism sector has focused on completing essential tasks to ensure seamless and coordinated tourism management operations.

Currently, the province has 54 officially recognized tourist sites. The elimination of district-level administrations has had a tangible impact on spatial development and the tourism brand of each area.

Mr. Nguyen Dang An, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (DOCST), said: “Administrative restructuring and implementation of a two-tier local government system is a major, strategic initiative by the Party and State aimed at optimizing administration, enhancing effectiveness and efficiency. For tourism, this presents both challenges and opportunities for Lang Son to achieve a breakthrough and develop more sustainably. We have already begun reviewing and proposing adjustments to objectives, tasks, and solutions in the provincial tourism development plan toward 2030, with a focus on defining the newly formed administrative units that contain provincial-level tourist sites. This is crucial as it will reshape management, investment, and product development under an integrated and holistic vision.”

Following directions from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Provincial People’s Committee for review and adjustment of administrative units with respect to tourism, the DOCST has advised and implemented relevant tasks within its jurisdiction.

Since May 2025, the DOCST has tasked the Tourism Management Division to coordinate with district/city culture, science, and information divisions to identify new administrative units with provincial-level tourist sites. To date, the It has issued official guidance on functions, tasks, and authority of the Culture–Social Affairs Division under new commune-level People’s Committees, including in tourism.

Mr. Khong Hong Minh, Vice Chairman of Huu Lien commune, said:“Following guidance from the DOCST, we have studied and taken on some tourism management authorities-for example, assessment of infrastructure in accomodation facilities and homestays has been handed to the commune’s Culture–Social Affairs Division. Notably, regarding the use of the “Dong Lam – Huu Lien Tourism” certification mark, we have proposed to the Department of Science and Technology to request the Intellectual Property Office to extend its recognized scope to match the new administrative boundaries of Huu Lien commune.”

As tourism territories are redefined, local tourism policies must also be updated to develop distinctive brands. Ms. Pham Thi Thuan, Head of the Culture-Social Affairs Division of Dong Kinh ward, emphasized: “We conducted a comprehensive survey and assessment of the tourism resources within our new ward-including policy frameworks, development status, targets, tasks, and solutions-to ensure smooth tourism management. The new Dong Kinh ward comprises the entire natural area and population of Vinh Trai ward, Dong Kinh ward, and Mai Pha commune (formerly in Lang Son city), which excel in cultural and spiritual tourism, as well as Yen Trach commune (formerly in Cao Loc district), which is strong in ecotourism and agro-tourism. Based on these realities, our tourism strategy will align with the “Lang Son Provincial Tourism Development Plan to 2030” while preserving major tourist values.”

Following the review and re-evaluation of tourism resources after the district-level change, businesses and tour operators are already prepared to collaborate with the new communes and wards in promotion efforts and in building new tourism products.

Mr. Ngo Manh Tung, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Tourism Association, stated: “The administrative adjustment is challenging, but also a good opportunity for localities to create new tourism routes, enrich product offerings, and enhance destination value. However, effective tourism development hinges on mechanisms and policies. I believe that the new communes and wards must quickly stabilize their management apparatus and develop specific tourism policies in light of expanded boundaries and resources. They must coordinate with travel businesses to design market-relevant routes and destinations, and implement professional digital-based promotion and communication activities.”

With the proactive efforts of all levels and the consensus of organizations and individuals, we believe Lang Son will fully harness its tourism potential, making tourism a key contributor to the province’s sustainable development in this new period.

According to Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam, 2025 marks a new historical milestone in Vietnam-Czech relations as the two countries celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations. A key highlight is the elevation of their ties to a Strategic Partnership during the official visit of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to the Czech Republic earlier this year. The Ambassador expressed confidence that the sustainable Strategic Partnership will bring greater achievements and contribute to peace, strength, and prosperity in both nations.

“This mutually beneficial partnership will continue to thrive, driven by the close bond between our two cultures and peoples. I can proudly affirm that the cultural ties nurtured between Vietnam and the Czech Republic are extraordinary,” emphasized Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam.

Proud of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic with over 100,000 people, he appreciated their significant contributions over the years in fostering the deep friendship between the two nations.

“We will continue to commemorate the 75th anniversary of our diplomatic relations with a series of friendship events and celebrations in both countries from now until the end of the year. And I hope that Deputy Minister David Kašpar will actively support our efforts,” said Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam.

Speaking at the event, Czech Deputy Minister of Culture David Kašpar noted the deep-rooted traditional ties between the Czech Republic and Vietnam not only in diplomacy and economics, but also in culture and between the people. Today, the Vietnamese community is an inseparable part of Czech society, enriching its cultural diversity and leaving a visible mark on daily life in the country.

He was also pleased to share that Czech culture (music, literature, cinema, and theatre) has found a place in the hearts of many Vietnamese friends. He expressed his belief that ongoing cultural exchanges, joint projects, and artistic collaborations would continue to thrive, strengthening the cultural bridge between the two nations. One such initiative is the summer outdoor exhibition organized by the Museum of Puppet Culture in Chrudim, featuring a miniature model of a traditional Vietnamese water puppet stage and a photo exhibit showcasing this unique art form.

Mr. David Kašpar emphasized that culture has a special power to transcend geographical distances, language barriers, and historical differences. He hoped that this solemn moment would not only be an occasion to reflect on the shared past, but also a call to the future to continue fostering cultural dialogue, friendship, and creating new opportunities for exchange and mutual enrichment.

Built on a foundation of positive tradition, the two nations have continuously cultivated mutual understanding and trust, not only in politics and economics but also in the fields of culture and the arts.

Vietnamese culture, with its long history and strong Eastern identity, has left an impression on Czech friends. Vietnam highly values the fact that the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic has been officially recognized as a national minority. This not only acknowledges their positive contributions to Czech society but also symbolizes harmonious integration and cultural diversity. Moreover, the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic acts as a cultural bridge connecting the two peoples, contributing to mutual understanding and friendship.

The event was held in the open-air setting of Warsaw’s historic Old Town, attracting a large number of international visitors

The event was held in the open-air setting of Warsaw’s historic Old Town, attracting a large number of delegates, guests, and international visitors. The diverse and engaging activities closely linked to Vietnam’s unique culture, art, cuisine, and tourism left a strong impression and drew many attendees to participate and experience. As a result, the image of a friendly and attractive Vietnam with its rich cultural heritage was effectively introduced to the Polish public, contributing to increased interest and future visits from Polish tourists.

According to Resolution 11/NQ-CP by the Government of Vietnam, Poland is one of three European countries eligible for visa exemption with a maximum temporary stay of up to 45 days for tourism purposes, under programs organized by Vietnamese international travel service providers. This policy is effective from 01 March to 31 December 2025.

The Vietnamese cuisine showcase area attracted significant interest from international visitors

In terms of tourist exchange, in 2023, Vietnam welcomed over 34,000 Polish visitor arrivals, recovering to 98% of 2019 levels. In 2024, the number rose to over 51,000, an increase of 25% compared to 2019. In the first five months of 2025, nearly 37,000 Polish tourist arrivals visited Vietnam, up 44.5% year-on-year. Poland currently ranks 6th among European markets sending tourists to Vietnam.

Year 2024 marks a strong expansion phase for outbound tourism from Poland, with significant increases in both the number of trips and tourism spendings. Data shows Polish travelers made approximately 14.6 million international trips in 2024, with estimated spending at USD 10.4 billion. In addition to traditional European destinations, Polish tourists are showing growing interest in farther destinations across Asia. With its rapid growth, the Polish outbound travel market is becoming increasingly important. The visa exemption policy under Resolution 11 provides a valuable opportunity for Vietnamese destinations and tourism businesses to connect, collaborate, and attract more Polish visitors in the near future.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice-Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Tran Hoa Nam emphasized the importance of opening a direct flight route in tourism promotion between the two countries. “The restoration of the flight route from Moscow to Khanh Hoa not only shortens travel time but also reduces airfare costs and facilitates the promotion of the Russian tourist market, one of the major international tourist markets of Khanh Hoa tourism,” Tran Hoa Nam expressed.

Aeroflot representatives said that the airline is closely monitoring the trend of international tourism recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic, especially the increase in travel demand of Russians to warm destinations in Southeast Asia. In particular, Khanh Hoa stands out as a great destination for Russian tourists thanks to its remarkable sea and island tourism potential, beautiful natural landscapes and ideal warm climate.

Accordingly, Aeroflot has planned to resume flights to Cam Ranh with 2 flights/week from the end of March 2025 and will consider increasing the frequency of flights during the peak tourist season. The reopening of the flight route from Moscow to Cam Ranh not only meets travel demand but also contributes to promoting trade and bilateral cooperation between Russia and Vietnam.

MOCST’s Minister Nguyen Van Hung praised the strong collaboration between the two countries in policy communication, destination promotion, and cultural diplomacy to foster mutual understanding.

MOCST’s Minister Nguyen Van Hung also highlighted Vietnam’s reputation as an attractive destination for international tourists, as recognized by numerous prestigious global tourism awards.

“Vietnam’s breathtaking natural landscapes serve as inspiration for poetry, music, painting, and cinema. The Vietnamese people are friendly, warm, and welcoming. Leveraging these advantages, Vietnam has proactively collaborated with other countries to develop its film industry. Cinema has also become an important contributor to the national GDP,” the Minister stated.

He cited Kong: Skull Island as a prime example of a Hollywood blockbuster filmed in Vietnam. The movie gained widespread international recognition and significantly boosted Vietnam’s tourism industry, making it a shining example of cinematic cooperation between the two nations.
