The DIFF of differences

Unlike any other DIFF season, DIFF 2025 has many differences. Specifically, this will also be the first year with two teams from the host Viet Nam competing at DIFF. In addition to the familiar name of the Da Nang Fireworks team, there will be an additional fireworks team called Z121 Vina Pyrotech – Viet Nam Ministry of Defence.

Also, DIFF 2025 will be the longest and largest fireworks festival in the history of the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival, featuring six competition nights of spectacular displays with the participation of 10 teams from Viet Nam, Finland, the UK, Portugal, Poland, South Korea, Italy, Canada, and China.

The opening night of DIFF 2025 is set to take place on the evening of May 31, with a match between Viet Nam 1 and Finland, themed Cultural Essence.

Fireworks nights will be held every Saturday evening in the following weeks (with a one-week break before the final night), featuring themes and participating teams as follows: Night 2 (June 7): Creative Arts – Viet Nam 2 vs. Poland; Night 3 (June 14): Connecting Journeys – Canada vs. China; Night 4 (June 21): Sustainable Development – Portugal vs. the UK; Night 5 (June 28): Leading Technology – South Korea vs. Italy; and Night 6 (July 12): Embracing the New Era – Grand Final.

Head of Marketing Department of Sun Group Cao Ngan Ha said that this year’s DIFF promises not only impressive fireworks performances but also extraordinary experiences for visitors, blending art, music, sports, and cutting-edge technology. Accordingly, each night will be considered to be a lively live concert with popular domestic and international artists, combined with fireworks, music, and state-of-the-art technology, offering guests an experience that exceeds expectations.

Notably, the Sun Paradise Land (SPL) app will be introduced for the first time. With the app, visitors can personalise their Da Nang travel schedule, buy fireworks tickets and entrance tickets to major entertainment centres, andvote for the winning team each night to receive lucky gifts. Also, augmented reality (AR) will be integrated into the app, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in a world of endless imagination and creativity alongside the Da Nang fireworks sky, creating a powerful ripple effect. Through these unique technological effects, this year’s fireworks experience promises to be elevated to a whole new level.

Expectations for DIFF 2025

During DIFF 2024, Da Nang welcomed more than 1.5 million visitors, up 60% compared to DIFF 2023. Revenue from accommodation, food and beverage, and travel services in June 2024 reached VND 16,344 billion, a rise of 28.2% over the same period in 2023. This showed the great attraction of DIFF for the overall development of the city.

Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association Ho Thanh Tu said that the municipal Tourism Association and its member chapters are planning to increase tours to lure more visitors to the central coastal city during the DIFF 2025 season in particular, and the summer in general. Also, special attention will be paid to developing more sightseeing and entertainment service packages combined with a series of events in the summer to enhance visitor experiences.

Vice President and General Director of Sun Group Central Region Huynh Nam Thang said that after 12 years of organisation, DIFF has truly become a festival with its own brand of Da Nang, making this place become the “city of fireworks” – a precious title that not every destination can achieve.

He emphasised DIFF has contributed to making Da Nang’s name increasingly popular in the international tourism map and make the city become an appealing tourist destination of regional and world stature every summer.

With the theme “Da Nang – The New Rising Era”, DIFF 2025 promises not only to be the longest and largest fireworks season in the history of DIFF with the most performance nights and participating teams ever, but also to bring the ultimate, emotional experiences to the audience thanks to breakthrough creativity in technology combined with impressive art, music and sports performances.

Aside from preparing items for DIFF 2025, Sun Group is planning a series of side events, with new and unique tourism products to be launched to elevate the experience for visitors, while contributing to enhancing the competitiveness of Da Nang tourism in 2025.

According to Director of the Da Nang Department of Tourism Truong Thi Hong Hanh, to accompany DIFF 2025, the city has been preparing many new products and unique activities to serve local people and visitors. Included are the Da Nang Museum, the Hai Van Gate relic site, and a series of special festivals and events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the city’s liberation, and the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the national reunification.

Moreover, the city continuously has organised cultural, sports and tourism festivals and events throughout the year to bring a vibrant festival atmosphere and valuable experiences to visitors. To attract visitors during the DIFF 2025 season, the city’s tourism industry has increased domestic and international communication activities through travel agencies, international press agencies, as well as social networks, especially on popular websites of key markets.

Skytrax ranks Noi Bai and Da Nang among top 100 global airports in 2025

Noi Bai International Airport in Ha Noi and the Da Nang International Airport in the central city of the same name have been listed among the world’s top 100 airports in 2025 by the UK–based aviation consultancy Skytrax.

Ha Noi-based Noi Bai International Airport

According to the list, Noi Bai ranked 76th, up 17 places compared to last year, while Da Nang stood at the 84th position, up 10 places.

This marked the seventh time that Noi Bai airport has made it in Skytrax’s list, from 2016 to 2020, in 2024 and in 2025.

Noi Bai International Airport welcomed over 30 million passengers in 2024. It also recorded strong growth in international travelers in the first quarter of 2025, with the launch of several new international routes connecting Noi Bai with destinations around the world.

Over 6m tourist arrvals to Vietnam in 1st quarter

According to the General Statistics Office, international visitors to Vietnam in March 2025 reached more than 2 million; a year-on-year increase of nearly 29%. In the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam welcomed more than 6 million international visitors, up by nearly 30% compared to the same period last year and the highest-ever number of visitors in a quarter.

China was the largest market with nearly 1.6 million arrivals; South Korea ranked second with nearly 1.3 million arrivals; followed by such markets as Taiwan (China), Japan, India, the U.S.A and Australia.

Travelers from Russia take direct Azur Air flights to Khanh Hoa from mid-March of 2025.

The record number of visitors in the first 3 months of 2025 resulted from effective promotional campaigns and visa relaxation to lure tourists from potential markets; contributing to affirming the growing appeal of the destination of Vietnam but also marking a significant step toward the goal of welcoming 22 to 23 million international visitors by the end of 2025.

However, to achieve this goal, the tourism industry needs to focus on developing a wider variety of tourism products, especially those with unique cultural and historical values; green tourism products… to attract more and more international visitors and encourage higher spending from travelers.

Insight into cuisine of Quang land

In Da Nang, there are restaurants that have existed for decades, passed down through many generations in the same family. These traditional, long-standing restaurants always have a special appeal not only because of the unique flavours that go with the years but also the deep affection when wholeheartedly heading towards to the homeland, the ancestral land, contributing to the style, spiritual life as well as the personality of the Quang people…

Typical dishes have contributed to the style, spiritual life and personality of the Quang people

Special appeal

Located at 63 Le Hong Phong Street, Mrs Phien ‘bun cha ca’ (rice vermicelli with fish cake) eatery is one of the oldest restaurants in Da Nang. Ms. Ho Thi Thu, 59, the restaurant’s eatery said that the restaurant was established in the 1970s, passed down from her biological mother with the “brand” Mrs Phien and has existed until now for nearly 55 years.

The eatery has long been a favourite destination for locals as well as diners from near and far when visiting Da Nang. Diners will always remember the taste of the broth, which is always carefully cooked from the selection of ingredients to the cooking process to achieve the wonderful dish with the aroma of vegetables.

The highlight of the broth is a bit of shrimp paste, which is an indispensable spice in the culinary culture of the coastal region. The eatery also sells a full range of fresh seafood, typical of the coastal region such as mackerel noodle soup, tuna, crab cake and shrimp cake…

To enhance the flavour of the fish noodle soup, diners are recommended to consume a plate of raw vegetables with typical vegetables of the tropical climate such as bean sprouts, lettuce, basil, banana shoots, all contributing to giving diners a memorable bowl of ‘bun cha ca’. Located on this decades-old Le Hong Phong street, there are also other famous eateries such as Mrs.Hoa and 61B Le Hong Phong shop, contributing to creating a unique culinary street with its own flavour.

When it comes to long-standing restaurants with the typical flavour of Da Nang cuisine, the Mrs. Vi ‘mi Quang’ (Quang noodles) restaurant on Le Dinh Duong street is one of the best. For those who are originally from the Quang land, they have probably visited this venue to enjoy this traditional culinary flavour.

Mrs. Vi Quang noodles always attract diners with a broth of thick filling cooked from chicken eggs, duck eggs, quail eggs, chicken, beef and pork ribs, accompanied with a plate of fried spring rolls that are golden brown. And of course, there is also an extremely eye-catching plate of raw raw vegetables with many types of herbs.

Eateries such as Mrs. Phien or Mrs. Vi’s ‘mi Quang’, despite having existed for decades, are always in the hearts of Da Nang people and are often introduced to international friends during their Da Nang trips.

Ms. Tran Thi Thu Huyen, 25, from Ngu Hanh Son District) confided that traditional dishes sold at time-honoured eateries always bring different emotions to herself as a way to preserve and maintain the traditional culture of her homeland.

From identity to modernity

According to research on the relationship between cuisine and culture as well as human personality, specifically Quang’s personality, for a long time, eating and drinking or cuisine has been a necessary and indispensable need for humans to maintain life, increase labour production and develop comprehensively. The journey to discover Da Nang cuisine is also a journey to discover the history, culture and people here.

Each dish carries a story, a unique mark, contributing to the colourful and flavorful picture of Da Nang cuisine. Delving into the reality of culinary culture to see that it is a process of transformation from identity to modernity, likened to a multi-coloured symphony, a subtle blend between the cultural identity of Quang people in particular, Viet Nam in general and the influences from many different cultures.
In that culinary culture, there is also a strong historical mark and diverse cultural exchange, both expressing the liberal and open nature of coastal residents and showing the flexibility in cultural adaptation of a young, vibrant city that is always ready to welcome multinational cultures.

This is clearly shown through the appearance and long-term existence of many decades-old restaurants of Indians, Japanese, French and most notably, the restaurants of Chinese origin. Located at 267 Ong Ich Khiem Street, the Cho Lon restaurant with nearly 20 years of presence in Da Nang is one of the large restaurants of Chinese origin that still exists in Da Nang. Mr. Lam Khom, 36, the owner of the restaurant, said that he inherited this restaurant from his biological mother in the 2000s, and he has now been attached to Da Nang for nearly 20 years.

The Cho Lon restaurant and many other of its kind in Da Nang are clear evidence of the harmonious combination of Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine, becoming familiar dishes in the culinary life here, thereby bringing diners unique and unforgettable culinary experiences.

The Da Nang cuisine has been formed and developed based on the foundation of traditional Vietnamese culinary culture, combining influences from many other cultures such as China, the West, India and Khmer; a harmonious combination of tradition and modernity with a unique and rich menu.

Enjoying the Quang cuisine, especially at long-standing restaurants with their existence of dozens or even hundreds of years old, diners not only enjoy delicious food but also nourish their souls, experience cultural values and preserve memorable moments. Cuisine has become an indispensable part of the diverse cultural picture of the Quang land, the pride of the people here and a unique cultural heritage that needs to be preserved and promoted for future generations.

Huynh Kim and the Art of Macrame in Hoi An

In a small, cosy workshop in the heart of Hoi An, Huynh Kim – a slender, soft-spoken young man – has been meticulously reviving an ancient craft that captivates visitors: Macrame.

Within just a few square metres, Kim Macrame breathes life into strands of rope, creating vibrant pieces rich in Vietnamese cultural identity.

Huynh Kim in his workshop at 11 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Hoi An

From keychains, decorative rugs, and coasters to plant hangers, lampshades, wall frames, clothing, and handbags, his intricate knotting technique has gained recognition from restaurants, hotels, resorts, and especially foreign tourists.

An art work of Macrame by Huynh Kim

Kim discovered his passion for macrame in high school after a friend’s introduction. Although he studied logistics at university, he continued to pursue Macrame, mastering knotting techniques and selling his work online by his second year, receiving positive feedback.

Foreigners love Macrame.

Macrame, dating back to the 13th century, is a distinct knotting art that requires no machinery. Kim’s designs, inspired by Vietnamese heritages, showcase his love for his homeland while introducing its culture to global visitors. His workshop allows visitors to craft their own Macrame pieces, often sparking an appreciation for sustainability and nature.

In his tranquil workspace, Kim patiently knots a dress adorned with lotus and cloud patterns for a foreign client. Under his skilled hands and vivid imagination, lifeless cords transform into artistic expressions of both practical value and profound cultural essence.
